Monday 28th March – bike *** – Short two river, Orwell to the Deben including lunch at Landguard – foggy and chilly.

It was supposed to state off foggy/cloudy but clear during the day but sadly Felixstowe was shrouded in gloom all day making it pretty chilly too due to light winds meaning it did not clear! So, exercises in the back room with the heater on, then it did start to clear so I packed lunch and Mag and I continued where last week left off with a bike ride, we might not get many more in this week as the temperature set to plummet with a run of northerly winds with a little sleet or even snow not out of the question! The usual route through Langer Park to the view point where the Ever Given is back in port with loads of action going on the Orwell yet again. I join Mag in the fog on the old jetty for lunch watching all the action going on in front of us, an empty container ship had just left port and was disappearing into the gloom out to sea, a dredger with a crane was scooping out the shipping channel one bucket full at a time, a very slow progress indeed! We had a tug return, the pilot boat, the small survey boat sailing around in circles plus fishing boats surrounded by gull and even a few yachts despite the lack of wind, we enjoyed our time spent there despite the cold, Mag spotted a seal and we had a pretty Purple Sandpiper whizzing about below us looking for dinner. Then it was time to set off through the reserve, once again full of rabbits and onto the prom, Mag heads into town to get me a local paper as I have a pic in while I continue past the beach hit on the prom near the Spa who have been told to remove them as due to a bit of beach erosion the council are putting them back, they made it on ITV,s This Morning and again on BBC’s Look East this evening as was one of my pics taken at Felixstowe Ferry, good day. Due to the cold, I cycled as quickly as possible to the Ferry for a few pics before returning the short route and home. There is some wind for Thurs?Fri but very cold again so will have to wait and sea if I venture out, maybe Bradfield on Friday especially as it’s the first of the new month!
